Frankie Weiss and Her Magic

Chapter Nine: The Cats and the Carpet Layers

A number of people wanted to adopt the Calico, but as soon as they were told she’s pregnant, the adoption was off.  Finally one couple with two children came into the store and immediately fell in love with the Calico and her coloring. Telling the couple the Calico was pregnant, a deal was struck. After birthing, the couple and children would keep one kitten, the rest would be returned to the Gift Shoppe for adoption.

These two ladies deserve recognition. I’m sorry not to have gotten their address or place of business. However, with the happy ending, it was a heart-warming story.

Some days ago an article appeared in one of our local Philadelphia newspapers; it dealt with pet owners being bereaved upon the passing of a beloved pet. I wrote to the author of that piece asking for permission to use some of her wording in “ Frankie and Her Magic”; never hearing from her, I decided to write my own story concerning the loss of a beloved pet and the trauma involved for both pet and owner. After watching Emergency Vet on Animal Planet for quite a while, I like to think, I’m qualified in putting down on paper some of the outrages expense and hurt these loving pet keepers go through in order to keep their pets alive and near to them. We as pet owners or in a feline’s case “keepers” come to regard them as our “children” and family members. They have become part of our lives and we have no choice but to live through and for them.

Chapter 10, will contain material all pet owners may have to go through during   the lifetime of their precious and beloved pets.  My Frankie is a perfect example of that experience in Chapter 4 and elsewhere, as related in this narrative.
