Frankie Weiss and Her Magic

Chapter Nine: The Cats and the Carpet Layers

It was also time to show some affection to Mr. Mom and be petted in return by him. Frankie then decided she had to look into these monsters' toolboxes, hearing their footsteps coming back into the house, Johnnie , ever alert, both she and Frankie ran back to the safety of the bedroom.

Amazed at the speed with which they laid the new carpet. My house had once again become a home. After vacuuming, the men put back the furniture and left.

Frankie and Johnnie moved out of the bedroom to familiar surroundings and to inspect the newly laid carpeting.

The lesson learned, cats, all cats, do not like their homes disturbed by strangers.

The Rejection

To some people shades of white and black have no distinction; therefore, it is not unlike the short story I wrote about the loss of my beautiful Frankie 's teeth. The editor refused my manuscript with the e-mail explanation that her readers did not want to read sad stories. How anyone, especially a person devoted to the feline specie, could think that saving a cat's life is sad and it's telling would bring forth an avalanche of mail from unhappy readers with the publishing of this happening is beyond my comprehension.

Frankie went through torture with Gingivitis, a dental disease common to both humans and some animals. Going through some earlier extractions, consultations, visits to world famous Animal Clinics, medicines, prayers, much expense. Nothing seemed to help. The only cure was the finality of removing all her teeth. This beautiful cat, my love, took it in stride. Me, I was a nervous wreck wondering would my little Calico live through all this torture to save her life and let me be her Mr. Mom for the years to come. I could not afford to lose this magnificent ray of sunshine in my later years.

Frankie , today, is a healthy, happy five-year old totally in love with her keeper, me. Her companion cat, Johnnie the Tabby has all her teeth and is dominated by Frankie . Johnnie in the almost five years we became a loving family was never afflicted with any illness. However, I think she was behind the door when cat brains were passed out. She's not as independent as Frankie and will come running whenever I call to her.
