The Cats and the Carpet Layers

Cats, most any house cats, do not like their homes being uprooted, changed, disturbed, or by strange people coming into the house making noise and moving things around.

Frankie and Johnnie were no exceptions. The green carpet on the floors was home to them for the past four years or more. Now these guys were tearing and cutting it up. They wanted no part of it. Running away and hiding from the noises and men for hours at a time. Not eating, they had gone into the bedroom. I'm not even sure they went to their litter boxes.

Johnnie , hiding under the bed would not come out. She'd not emerge even to my call, this ever hardly happens. My voice to her, means touching, loving and food. Meanwhile, Frankie the Calico, the brave one, would come out to quickly look things over and then go back into the bedroom or the little den, off the bedroom. Frankie 's an animal of immense curiosity and she wants to look into everything going on in her home.

The living room, dining area, hallway and closets, however, were off limits to her on this day. The green carpet was rapidly disappearing and the noise of hammers and other tools foreign to her, caused dismay; she was used to run of the house. When would this strange upheaval end?

What was Mr. Mom doing to their loving home? He should know after living with them for over four years that such goings on would be detrimental to their way of life.

It would take a few more hours before the carpet layers had completed installing the new "Oatmeal" colored carpet. This color carpet tended to make the living space look larger. Surely, that would not interfere with Frankie and Johnnie 's home and familiarity with its appointments. The noise had stopped. The strangers were gone.

The men were outside in their truck eating lunch. Suddenly, the cats appeared. They both went downstairs, to their litter boxes, coming upstairs, it was feeding time. Having their full, it was time to look around the house at the havoc caused by these strange men who had been making so much noise.
