Frankie Weiss and Her Magic

Chapter Ten: Why Adopt a Cat?

The Part We Humans Play

No doubt the adoption of Frankie and Johnnie has given me a greater and more explicit moral outlook on the part we play in the lives of our non-human companions. It would be impossible for me to imagine my life without the companionship of these two trusting, lovable and utterly adorable felines, animals that have contributed so much good and welcome relief into my life. It does make me realize what a powerful and fulfilling experience the entrance of a dog or cat(s) into a life that has been altered by the death of a spouse or of the empty nest syndrome. For me, it was a tremendous cathartic cleansing of many hurts and much loneliness among sad and painful memories. While time is a great healer, I must give credit to my cats in regarding them as the “children” Evelyn and I never had. This adoption had results never envisioned.

You are no longer left alone with your thoughts that could run rampant and possibly affect your health. You have another one or two living entities to take care of and to worry about in the best of ways. Giving yourself over to caring for and raising a pet could be a blessing in disguise. These pets will uplift your spirits in ways you never thought possible. Just to think how much companionship, love, comfort and pleasure these animals can bring into a life that was once burdened with sorrow and loneliness is amazing. During these past six or more years without Evelyn , my life has been turned around completely by the adoption and the love of my “children” Frankie the Calico and Johnnie the Tabby.

In my opinion, few human beings are immune to these heart-stealing felines. Of course there are the exceptions, but on the whole, if we open our hearts to these beautiful felines, we are the better off for doing so. Just opening the door and being greeted by these loving animals proves that point without exception.
